A gift made with love, crafted from vintage clock parts sourced together with family. Two sculptures that represent the beauty of nature through the lens of mechanical artistry.
Mechanical Domes (Flower & Leaves) are a pair of sculptures created as a special gift for my wife, Lelilah. These pieces were born from a collaborative effort with my father, who helped source the vintage clock parts that would become the foundation of these unique artworks.
Each dome represents a different aspect of nature — one captures the essence of a flower in bloom, while the other embodies the leaves of a tree. By restructured vintage clock mechanisms and components, we transformed these time-worn pieces into something new, giving them a second life as artistic expressions of the natural world.
The process of sourcing these parts was a journey in itself. My father and I spent time together exploring antique shops, flea markets, and private collections, hunting for clocks that had reached the end of their functional lives but still held beauty within their components. Each gear, spring, and mechanism carried its own history, waiting to be reimagined.
Creating these sculptures was about more than just assembling parts — it was about honoring the craftsmanship of the original clockmakers while adding a new layer of meaning. The vintage mechanisms, once precise instruments for measuring time, now serve as abstract representations of the natural cycles of growth and decay that define life itself.
These Mechanical Domes stand as a testament to the power of collaboration between generations and the enduring beauty of craftsmanship. They represent a bridge between past and present, between the mechanical precision of horology and the organic beauty of nature, created with love and given as a gift to someone special.
